Islamic Relief USA Issues Statement Regarding Humanitarian Crises in Sudan

Friday October 31, 2025

ALEXANDRIA, Va. –  The people of Sudan are enduring unprecedented suffering. Violence that erupted in April 2023 has escalated into one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. More than 30 million people — over two-thirds of the population — are now estimated to need humanitarian assistance across food, health, and protection services. Several areas have already entered confirmed famine conditions; millions more face the imminent risk of famine.

The health system has nearly collapsed. Many hospitals have been attacked or shut down; key services for maternal health, infectious disease control, and trauma care are inaccessible for large swathes of the country. Civilians are being displaced on a massive scale. There are more than 12.5 million internally displaced and millions more forced to flee across Sudan’s borders. Humanitarian access is severely constrained by active hostilities, sieges, logistical barriers, and deliberate obstruction or targeting of aid operations.

Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), calls for the immediate scale-up of life-saving assistance across food security, nutrition, healthcare, clean water, shelter, and protection services. We particularly urge support for children who are facing acute malnutrition and disease outbreaks. All parties to the conflict must respect international humanitarian law — allow safe movement of aid, uphold protection of civilians and refrain from targeting civilian infrastructure. Displaced persons, children, women, and those trapped in besieged or hard-to-reach areas must be prioritized. Local faith institutions and community networks often remain among the few functioning service-providers in crisis. They must be supported, resourced, and enabled to act. The scale of this crisis demands collective response. Agencies, donors, faith-based organizations and citizens worldwide must recommit to compassion, contribution, and advocacy to ensure that no one is left behind.

IRUSA’s commitment to support the people of Sudan and help them overcome the tremendous hardships they are facing remains unrelenting. We will continue to mobilize support, resources,, raise awareness, strengthen partnerships, and deliver essential humanitarian assistance guided by faith-inspired compassion and dignity for all.
