Ahmed Shehata, CEO of Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of former President Jimmy Carter. Shehata acknowledged President Carter’s extraordinary legacy as a champion of peace, human rights, and humanitarian causes.
“President Carter’s unwavering commitment to justice and equality inspired countless individuals worldwide,” said Shehata. “His tireless efforts in promoting peace and resolving conflicts left an indelible mark on the global stage.”
Shehata also highlighted the significant contributions of the Carter Center to humanitarian endeavors, particularly in the areas of disease eradication, conflict resolution, and election monitoring. The Carter Center’s work aligned closely with Islamic Relief USA’s mission to alleviate poverty and suffering, regardless of race, religion, or nationality.
Islamic Relief USA extends its deepest sympathies to the Carter family during this difficult time. President Carter’s legacy will continue to inspire future generations to strive for a more just and compassionate world. In fact, in 2010 and again with another cohort more recently, Islamic Relief USA was proud and honored to partner with the Carter Center in a special week-long program that brought Gaza middle and high schoolers to the United States to partake in events at the Carter Center; to meet with Islamic Relief USA and young American Muslims that we brought together for the exchange; to be received at the nation’s Capitol; and to visit the United Nations in New York. We remember these young people that had such promise as future leaders and we are so pleased to have been a part of the trip, including their first experience ice skating in a snowy Washington, DC Smithsonian outdoor rink and for President Carter’s bold vision in fostering peace and understanding.
