spectrumlocalnews.com:”Day of Dignity in Rochester Provides Food, Winter Necessities”

The following is an excerpt from an article posted online in the spectrumlocalnews.com   2020:

“ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The nonprofit Islamic Relief USA and Barakah Muslim Charity held its annual Day of Dignity in Rochester Saturday.

The charity gave away food, winter coats, blankets, and more to help those less fortunate.

It held the drive-thru event at its headquarters on Jefferson Avenue and organizers say they have served 200 families so far.

One told Spectrum News the pandemic has made their mission much more important.

“The place where we stand is probably, I think, one of the poorest neighborhoods in the whole country, not just in Rochester,” said financial director Alma Omerhodzic. “Even before COVID, there was great need. So with COVID, obviously, things have been not very good in these families. So any help is good.”

It also holds a food pantry twice a week, on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Jefferson Avenue headquarters.”
