B.C. Dodge & R. Mordant Mahon are visited by Dr. Sayed Ammar Nakshawani for this special Ramadan episode of “What a Relief!” — IRUSA’s official podcast.
This week, B.C. and Mordant are joined by Dr. Sayed Ammar Nakshawani, professor and Imam Ali Chair of Shia studies at the Hartford Seminary and Islamic subject matter expert, scholar, and author.
With Ramadan just around the corner, he talks about getting back to the purpose of the holy month, and “learning to discipline the human soul from its animalistic tendencies.”
He shares with us the vast spiritual and physical benefits of fasting, and how it helps build empathy and foster generosity. “Even sleeping in the month of Ramadan is worshipping God,” he says.
This episode also touches on the importance of intra-faith unity, and the role that the chaplain must play in helping create our own narrative.
Dr. Nakshawani spends every Ramadan in Africa. Tune in to find out why, and learn some tips on how you yourself can prepare for Ramadan. This week even features a live Q&A session.
