In line with its vision of working together for a world free of poverty, Islamic Relief USA is a partner of choice and supports a network of community-based and faith-based organizations across the United States. It plays a critical leadership role as per its mission of providing relief and development in a dignified manner regardless of gender, race, or religion, and working to empower individuals in their communities and give them a voice in the world. In 2020, IRUSA delivered aid to more than 600,000 people in 143 cities and 45 states across the US.
The current pandemic has affected individuals’ and families’ ability to purchase food due to food shortages, unemployment, and fear of exposure to COVID-19 in public spaces. As hunger is striking more and more every day, IRUSA is committed to support the vulnerable segments of the population in the USA. In celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 18, 2021, IRUSA will distribute packages consisting of hot meals, hygiene kits—including masks and hand sanitizers—and coats in select locations.
MLK Day 2021 marks the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to improve their communities.
