“FLINT, MI – With the holy fasting month of Ramadan upon us, Islamic Relief USA, a nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization, along with the Muslim Family Center will distribute food boxes to vulnerable populations in Flint.

The distribution will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, at 4800 S. Saginaw St. in Flint.

Food insecurity has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic took hold more than a year ago. To help ease the burden, Islamic Relief USA is expected to distribute the boxes of food, benefitting several clients. Boxes will contain rice, dates, cooking oil, flour, pasta, among other items.

Recent Census data showed that 34 million Americans reported to not have enough to eat each week, according to a Islamic Relief USA news release.

“The month of Ramadan is an opportunity for Muslims across the world to increase giving and empathy. It is a time to remember our neighbors who are struggling and have found themselves in vulnerable circumstances,” Sharif Aly, chief executive officer of IRUSA, said in the news release. ‘We are pleased to be collaborating with community-based organizations to provide assistance during this holy month.’”
