Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) issued the following statement regarding recent claims by Missouri Congressman Jason Smith, regarding allegations of Islamic Relief Worldwide’s (and by extension, Islamic Relief USA’s) links to problematic groups. The congressman has asked the Internal Revenue Service to strip IRUSA of its tax-exempt status.

“Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) and Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) are legally separate and independently governed entities. IRUSA requires all of its grantees, including IRW, to ensure compliance with applicable U.S. laws and regulations. IRUSA proudly works with a variety of U.S. government agencies in furtherance of its humanitarian mission.”
