ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Islamic Relief USA, a nonprofit humanitarian and development organization, has launched an emergency response campaign to provide aid to the people of Venezuela, after two back-to-back earthquakes on Wednesday killed and displaced hundreds of people.
“Islamic Relief USA is saddened to hear about the devastation and destruction caused by the two recent earthquakes in Venezuela,” said Ahmed Shehata, Chief Executive Officer at Islamic Relief USA. “We have launched an emergency campaign to help save lives, with the goal of providing services and resources that will help the brave people of Venezuela get through this difficult period. IRUSA is monitoring the situation on the ground. We are praying more lives will be saved by rescue teams as the search continues.”
The humanitarian aid will focus on providing food, water, shelter and medical aid to displaced families.
The earthquakes, which had magnitudes of 7.5 and 7.2, have taken the lives of over 1,900 people in the country’s capital of Caracas and surrounding areas.
