Islamic Relief USA Appoints Ahmed Shehata as Chief Executive Officer

 

ALEXANDRIA, Va –  Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), a nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization that works in nearly 50 countries around the world, announces the appointment of Ahmed Shehata as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Shehata succeeds interim CEO Araif Yusuff, who’ll return as the organization’s Director of Programs.

Prior to this role, Mr. Shehata served as IRUSA’s Director of Fund Development where helped stimulate unprecedented growth in revenue, donor base, and programmatic impact. Ahmed spearheaded innovative fund development initiatives and campaigns which helped IRUSA surpass $135 million in annual fundraising revenue in 2022, doubling its growth in the span of five years.

I am proud of all we have accomplished in the past 30 years this organization has been in existence,” Mr. Shehata said. “I look forward to continuing this level of excellence and commitment to helping and empowering people around the world, in countries that often suffer from underinvestment and lack of support. Mr. Shehata joined Islamic Relief USA in 2004 as a development coordinator in the organization’s Midwest office in Chicago. In 2008, he was promoted to Midwest Regional Manager. He was later named Community Relations Manager, based out of IRUSA’s main headquarters in the D.C. area.

In 2018, Mr. Shehata was named Director of Fund Development, where he helped lead the organization’s unprecedented growth in financial contributions, enabling IRUSA to expand its projects and programs portfolio.
