Islamic Relief Launches Emergency Relief Project in Bangladesh Following 
Cyclone Amphan

Alexandria, Va.  – In the wake of a devastating cyclone that struck many parts of the country, Islamic Relief USA has approved a $50,000 emergency assistance project to provide lifesaving services.

The funds will directly support 3,449 beneficiaries in the Khulna District who were heavily impacted by Cyclone Amphan, many of whom don’t have immediate access to shelters. The funds will go toward sheltering, non-food items and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) kits. In total, 734 families will benefit from this project
(1 family = 4.7 beneficiaries).

A total of 40,685 people in Khulna district were affected by Cyclone Amphan. Khulna is one of the heavily impacted districts. In the country as a whole, a total of 148,000 people were affected by the cyclone. A total of 37,000 households are either partially of fully destroyed.

Several stretches of agricultural land, shrimp and fish farms, and paved roads were inundated as well. Many
people were unable to find space inside the cyclone shelters. And, the large number of people living in the shelters are in need of dry/instant food, drinking water, medical assistance, clothes, emergency shelter and baby food.
