ALEXANDRIA, VA – Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA) has released the following statement:
The massacre in Nuseirat in central Gaza is utterly horrific, with dead bodies still scattered in the streets and medics unable to cope with hundreds of wounded and bloody civilians.
Such a massacre is impossible to justify. It is the inevitable consequence of international policies that treat Palestinian lives as worth less than Israeli lives.
The attack is one of the deadliest of the past 8 months, with reports of at least 274 Palestinians killed, including more than 60 children, and almost 700 wounded, in order to retrieve 4 Israeli hostages.
8 months into the escalation, every day now brings new depths of horror and suffering, with atrocities against civilians now becoming the daily normality.
Hundreds of thousands of people have recently arrived in central Gaza after Israel ordered them to leave Rafah and other areas. Many now live in permanent terror as they are trapped with nowhere safe to go. In the past week families and children have been bombed in their tents, schools, markets and refugee camps.
All civilians must be protected. The only way to do that is for world leaders to act to finally demand an immediate ceasefire, end arms sales and ensure full humanitarian access.
