Focus on Iraq

Two decades of conflict has taken its toll on the people of Iraq. Today, five million returnees are slowly making their way back to their homes while another one million people remain internally displaced. Both groups continue to face obstacles preventing successful integration into their local communities including lack of access to equal employment opportunities, with approximately 3.4 million in need of livelihood assistance – 2 million of whom are estimated to be in acute need due to extreme debt, trapping them into a harmful cycle. To add, Iraq plays host to over 300,000 Syrian refugees – 90% of whom are Syrian.

Our Work

IRUSA has been working in Iraq for decades Our goal is to provide emergency and long-term aid to vulnerable communities across the country including internally displaced people and Syrian refugees. 

A few of our interventions include:

• Food aid through IRUSA seasonal programming including Ramadan and Qurbani/Udhiyah
• Sustainable livelihood support for youth
• Orphan family support
• Winter aid for IDPs and Syrian refugees alike
