October 16, 2021 | Day of Dignity took place in Staten Island over the weekend and it was covered by the daily newspaper, Staten Island Advance.
“This is definitely a priority that we are here to help out and serve the community in the best way that we can. I am grateful for the weather and I am grateful for the fact that people did come out despite worrying about the weather. The community is something that we strive to continue to serve and we continue to grow in Staten Island, working with all our partners,” Abdul-Qawiyy said.
A range of community based organizations (CBOs) were present at the event including Project Hospitality, the Staten Island Urban Center, and IlluminArt Productions. NYC Emergency Management, the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit, and Port Richmond Community Emergency Response Team(CERT) provided vital safety information. NYC Test and Trace Corps and the NYC Mobile vaccine unit provided free COVID-19 testing and vaccines. Bait-ul Jamaat House of Community served hot lunch and distributed groceries.
