“What a Relief” podcast 3: Free Turkey to Americans in Need for the Holidays, A New Muslim Tradition in Ward 7.

Listen to B.C. Dodge from Ward 7, Washington, D.C., where Islamic Relief USA and Third Pillar work together to deliver Turkey and all the fixings just in time for the holidays, on this episode of “What a Relief!”, IRUSA’s official podcast.

Creamed corn, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, and a family-sized, halal turkey: These ingredients get expensive for any family, especially around the holiday season in America. But for the Deanwood Recreation Center community in Washington, D.C., turkey and all the sides come free today, just in time for the holidays.

“Today we’re giving 1,000 families from the Deanwood Area, which is Ward 7, 1,000 needy families turkeys and baskets,” said Mohammad Maraqa is President of Third Pillar Charities. “We have been collaborating with Islamic Relief for five years now, and we’ve become a tradition to the city of Washington and to the Deanwood community.”

In an area, where 1 in 7 families receives food assistance and 1 in 4 active military members receives food assistance, too many are falling through the cracks. And when it comes to Thanksgiving and the holidays in the United States, it’s nice to see Muslims get together to ensure that fellow Americans don’t go hungry during this family-oriented time of year.

Listen to members of the Deanwood community tell their stories first-hand and hear how you’ve become an important part of their stories this holiday season.

“What a Relief!” is the official podcast of Islamic Relief USA. Co-hosted by social media specialist B.C. Dodge, and Mordant Mahon, IRUSA’s “What a Relief!” puts a human face on what’s going on in the world and how you can enact positive change in it. New episodes every week!
