According to the World Bank, roughly 700 million people struggle to live on less than $2.15 a day. Due to a lack of proper insulation, heating, and proper clothing, harsh winter weather disproportionately affects low-income families, posing health risks like hypothermia, frostbite, and respiratory infections. Rising energy costs only exacerbate the situation, making the struggle for survival that much more difficult.
Despite winter lasting one season, IRUSA works year-round to build programming that helps vulnerable people cope with harsh winter weather. This year, we’re working to provide winter aid to 68,507 people across 17 countries in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East including refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and orphan families.
