Giving Tuesday FAQs

What is GivingTuesday?

Created in 2012, GivingTuesday encourages people to support charities, nonprofits, and community causes. People are encouraged to give in whatever way they can, either by donating their time, money, or resources to causes they care about, whether through monetary donations, volunteer work, or acts of kindness.

When is GivingTuesday in 2024?

GivingTuesday takes place annually on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and this year will take place Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Why donate to IRUSA on GivingTuesday?

For over 30 years, IRUSA has been a charity you can trust, with a track record of using donations efficiently and effectively. We also provide detailed reports of our funding for programs annually, which can be viewed on our website, irusa.org/reports. IRUSA has also received the highest marks with regards to transparency by key charity watch organizations.
This year, IRUSA is focusing on raising funds for the Global Humanitarian Aid fund. This fund was selected because it is our most flexible fund and allows us to immediately serve those in need where it’s needed the most.

Are Donations Tax Deductible?

Islamic Relief USA is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization. You will receive an email with your donation receipt which serves as your official record of contribution. We recommend consulting with your tax adviser to learn how you may be able to use your donation as a tax deduction.

Why every non-profit is absolutely obsessed with Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is the biggest movement for generosity, bringing in billions of dollars each year across the United States. The nonprofit movement allows individuals and small communities to make a global impact through unity. In a world where over 800 million suffer from food insecurity, Giving Tuesday allows you to help humanity get closer to a world free of poverty.

Take Saida, for example, a widow and mother of five. She sells fried bread by the roadside to earn a living and support her family in Kenya. Unfortunately, with such a low income, buying nutritious foods like meat is difficult. Yet, with a majority of donations coming from individual contributions, it is truly donors like you who allow individuals like Saida to be given the gift of meat and nutrition.

How you can give this Tuesday:

There are many ways you can make an impact – – by becoming a volunteer, rounding up your spare change, or even gifting your car – – but the single most effective way to make the biggest lasting impact is to become a fundraiser. There’s strength in unity, and by signing up for iRaise crowdfunding, you can use numbers to your advantage by maximizing your secure contribution. Every dollar raised contributes to the cause. Just $50 can:

  • Provide vital food aid
  • Help deliver hygiene kits
  • Support higher education
  • Bring clean water to drought-prone areas
  • Give relief to many more in need
