Islamic Relief USA and Baltimore Muslims to Serve Neighbors in Need on ‘Day of Dignity’

Islamic Relief USA to Serve Neighbors in Need on ‘Day of Dignity’Local Muslims will share food, health care and more with homeless residents on Sept. 24 in the 100 block of North Front Street Baltimore, MD.

Muslim Social Services Agency (MSSA) will provide services and resources to low income, homeless families and individuals living in Baltimore City in order to improve their quality of life. They plan to offer free hot meals, hygiene kits, t-shirts, socks, free access to healthcare screening, blood pressure checks, job referral information, eviction prevention information, free fruits and vegetables and school supplies. As a special event, MSSA will be organizing a “Dining Experience” for the homeless of Baltimore City. Linen covered tables and chairs will be lined out and homeless people will be given an exceptional dining experience by volunteers. The event is supported by Islamic Relief USA, a humanitarian aid organization serving 10 million people annually worldwide.

“We want to provide the homeless with a day of compassionate care and dignity,” said event coordinator Imam Hassan Amin. “We understand that feeding one who is hungry or helping a needy, helpless person or one reduced to extreme poverty who has none to help him does not win us fame or a great reputation. Our religion encourages Muslims to help the needy and poor and that gives true meaning and purpose to everything we do.”

Baltimore, MD will be one of 17 cities in the nation hosting a Day of Dignity, a flagship nationwide Islamic Relief USA initiative that aims to empower communities to come together to bring awareness, provide resources, deliver services, and build community around the issues of hunger and homelessness.

Islamic Relief USA has partnered with local organizations across the United States for over a decade to host the annual Day of Dignity event. Day of Dignity creates an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to provide services to their neighbors in need. It is a day to come together and work together for a better world. The food and services are available to anyone in need, regardless of faith.
