HOUSTON, Texas – Islamic Relief USA will present Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner a large $50,000 check for the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund during a press conference at the office of Mayor Sylvester Turner on Thursday, January 18.
“Hurricane Harvey upended the lives of many residents in the greater Houston area,” said Anwar Khan, president of Islamic Relief USA. “Islamic Relief USA remains committed to the residents who have suffered and lost so much. Their resilience is admirable and we want to help them rebuild their lives, grow spiritually, and come together for the common good to make the area and their lives even better than it was before the devastating storm.”
Islamic Relief USA’s Disaster Response Team, which comprises of both staff and volunteers, helped provide food and a place to sleep for many evacuees at a mega-shelter they operated in Dallas, where many Houston residents were sent during the August mega-storm.
