Poverty has reached levels not seen for over a decade in South Africa. Still recovering from the effects of the global pandemic, the economy is struggling and unemployment is on the rise. That’s why Islamic Relief worked to help improve access to clean and safe water as well as alleviate food insecurity for vulnerable communities living in rural areas through the rehabilitation of 19 boreholes and construction of 10 more; community-based training on best practices regarding hygiene and sanitation, and the distribution of food vouchers to 100 families.
Islamic Relief has been in South Africa since 2003. Since then, our focus has been on long-term development assistance to help pull vulnerable communities out of the cycle of poverty.
