Domestic insecurity, regional political instability, and environmental-induced disasters have hampered the growth of Niger鈥檚 economy. As of 2026, 52% of the population lives below the national poverty line of $2.15/day, and 47% of children under five are chronically malnourished. To add, Niger is the main country of asylum in West Africa, hosting an estimated 700,000 forcibly displaced people.
Islamic Relief USA has been in Niger for several years. Our focus is on long-term development assistance to help pull vulnerable communities out of the cycle of poverty.
