“STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A city-wide food bank program will offer free access to halal meals for the holy month of Ramadan, including at a site in New Brighton.

City Comptroller Scott Stringer, who is also running for mayor, organized the program in partnership with local elected officials, Muslim community leaders, and hunger relief organizations, according to a media release from Stringer’s office.

The will be calling the program “Iftar on the Go” — named for the after-sunset meal eaten by Muslims during Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer.
