B.C. Dodge & R. Mordant Mahon chat with Ridwan Adhami about his journeys around the world capturing stories of the vulnerable and the voiceless in this episode of “What a Relief!” — IRUSA’s official podcast.
This week, B.C. and Mordant welcome Ridwan Adhami, photographer and Creative Director at Islamic Relief USA. From Jordan to Palestine, from Bangladesh to Myanmar, Ridwan has had a unique glimpse at the human condition through his travels to 14 places over the course of five years.
His goal is to collect stories that will open our eyes to the realities of life — and need — around the world. And amidst the poverty and harsh conditions, his lens focuses on a common thread. “The more places I visit, the more I realize that we are the same.”
His stories take us through our own journey as a listener, one that is heart warming at one turn, and heart wrenching at the next. But whether it is in a clinic in Mogadishu, or receiving Syrian refugees on the shores of Greece, the same theme always rings through: “It wasn’t about the death and destruction, it was about the hope.”
