The World’s Worst Humanitarian Crisis

After nine years of conflict, Yemen remains one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world. Around 21.6 million people are in need of dire humanitarian assistance, including more than 11 million children. Over 4.5 million people have been uprooted from their homes as violence, collapsing services, and threats of large-scale famine have taken over the country.

Despite humanitarian aid, a staggering 17 million Yemenis remain food insecure. To add, preventable diseases such as cholera, diphtheria, measles, and dengue fever still exist in the country today. Women and children are bearing the brunt of the crisis. Malnutrition rates among women and children are one of the highest in the world, with 1.3 million mothers and 2.2 million children under the age of five requiring treatment for acute malnutrition.
