Alexandria, Virginia, August 11 – Islamic Relief USA will be hosting its annual Walk for Water on Saturday August 13, 2016, at Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
Islamic Relief’s Walk for Water is a family-friendly 5K charity walk aimed at encouraging the community to be actively involved in fundraising for Islamic Relief USA’s water and sanitation programs, which benefit thousands of people around the world.
Every day, millions of people around the world—mostly women and girls—walk miles to get water that too often makes them sick. Around 663 million people do not have proper access to a good water source—that’s 1 in 10 people in the world. Around 2.5 billion do not have access to sanitation facilities like bathrooms, which put water systems at further risk. Clean, safe water close to home changes lives—it reduces illness rates and frees women and girls to spend their time earning an income or going to school.
Islamic Relief USA’s current water projects are ongoing in the following countries: Albania, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Mali, Palestine, Somalia, South Sudan and Tunisia. Their water and sanitation projects–both at the emergency and long-term levels–have been providing essential aid for many years.
