Alexandria, Va. – Islamic Relief USA, a nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization, has partnered with Giving Games Foundation and the Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) for a humanitarian relief project on May 16 and 17 to provide financial assistance to zakat-eligible families.
The event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at ISGH Masjid Attaqwa, located at 10415 Synott Road, Sugar Land. In the first distribution that took place on May, 58 families were helped. In the upcoming distribution, some 250 families will receive assistance.
“As Houston’s community of Muslims, the Islamic Society of Greater Houston (ISGH) understands the importance of helping others during times of difficulty,” said Rodwaan Saleh, development director of ISGH. “COVID-19 will not stop the good, and together we can defeat hunger and poverty.”
A total of 308 families will be provided with gift cards during the weekend. Earlier this month, some 60 families received assistance. The cards will help families by giving them relief from their financial burdens.
“Working with volunteers and community leaders to assist our community in these difficult times is what we are not only required, but obligated to do, especially in this blessed month of Ramadan,” said Waleed Gabr, national major gifts manager for IRUSA. “Our faith encourages us to give back in whatever capacity we could to humanity.”
“The Giving Games Foundation is a youth-run organization that provides humanitarian relief and aid to people in need all across the globe,” said Nour Awad, a co-founder of Giving Games Foundation. “We believe that charity work should be as enjoyable as it is rewarding, and we center all of our projects around this belief.”
