Islamic Relief USA Joins LDS Church to Aid Americans Affected by Sandy

Islamic Relief USA Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) has partnered up with the Church of Latter-day Saints to help residents along the East Coast affected by Superstorm Sandy. DART also works closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the American Red Cross to deliver assistance efficiently and effectively. This coordinated effort by IRUSA and LDS Church is providing:

  • Food for 30,000 families for three days
  • Kitchen sets for 2,000 people
  • Winter clothing—coats and sweaters—for 5,000 people
  • Bedding, sheets and pillows for 2,000 individuals
  • Gloves, shovels and garbage bags to be used by some 3,000 volunteers for clean-up efforts
  • 10 generators and 2,000 hygiene kits
  • 3,000 blankets
  • 50 sump pumps

IRUSA’s DART members receive training and certification opportunities throughout the year in local communities around the country. IRUSA and its DART team have already responded to several emergencies so far this year.
