Islamic Relief USA Believes ‘Travel Ban’ Will Make It Harder to Provide Humanitarian Aid

Alexandria, VA – Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), the nation’s largest Muslim humanitarian and advocacy organization that works in more than 40 countries, issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Donald Trump’s “travel ban” against individuals entering the United States from Muslim-majority countries.

“As a humanitarian and relief organization, Islamic Relief USA works to assist the most vulnerable and marginalized communities across the world without regard to race, religion, gender or national background” said Sharif Aly, Chief Executive Officer of Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA). “With recent reports that the United States refugee acceptance rate is already at one of its lowest levels in decades, the Supreme Court’s recent decision in Trump. v. Hawaii will only compound the suffering of those who are in most need, including those experiencing famine and environmental disasters in Somalia, those facing health epidemics like cholera as a result of prolonged armed conflict, as well as Syrians who continue to be displaced and endure extreme levels of violence due to internal strife and conflict. During these times of heightened need to alleviate the profound suffering of so many across the world, we work to promote policies and laws that are based on compassion, humanity and tolerance.”
