(Washington, D.C., 12/22/10) – Calling it a “great initiative, with the potential of empowering non-governmental agencies and opening the door for greater global partnerships,” Islamic Relief USA’s CEO praised the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR). As a leader in humanitarian relief and development efforts, IR USA was invited to the launching of QDDR at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
At the event, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton formally launched QDDR, declaring it was a “change in attitude.” The review is a sweeping assessment aimed at bringing together valuable contributions of civilians across the federal government to advance American interests. It is premised on the idea that the Department of State and USAID can be more effective in preventing and resolving conflicts; alleviating poverty; and bringing about prosperity, stability and democracy in many parts of the world.
QDDR seeks to harness the contributions of civilian personnel across the government and civil society, unleashing the power of diplomats in 271 missions around the world, development professionals in more than 100 nations and experts from other U.S. government agencies.
