Serbia is home to thousands of refugees and migrants. Many of them want to settle in Western Europe, specifically in countries like Germany where the relatives they’ve been separated from now live.
A look at the refugee situation in Serbia:
- There are approximately 7,000 refugees in Serbia, 46% of whom are children. (National Geographic, 2017)
- Of that 46%, one in three of those children is unaccompanied by an adult. (National Geographic, 2017)
Starting in 2015, Islamic Relief USA began providing immediate relief to refugees. From 2015 to 2018, IRUSA has helped around 20,000 refugees. The refugees—who either still reside in Serbia or have now passed through—received vital items like food packages, hygiene kits, clothes, kits for babies, and cash transfers.
