For 264 million children and adolescents around the world, education is only a dream. In certain regions, children from poorer households are 4X more likely to be out of school than those in wealthier households.
Poverty and conflict keep education out of reach—families need their children to help bring income or work, and so school is not a priority. Yet, it is precisely access to education that is one of the surest routes OUT of poverty, according to the United Nation’s International Institute for Educational Planning.
Islamic Relief makes education a priority among its long-term and development-based efforts. Projects are aimed at both adults and children and include building and equipping schools, offering literacy classes and training teachers. Many of the education projects focus on impoverished women and young girls, helping them break free from poverty and ensuring stability for generations to come.
