(Alexandria, VA) —After 20 years of working for Islamic Relief, Anwar Khan, co-founder and Vice President of Fund Division, now leads the organization as Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
Khan began his tenure with the Islamic Relief brand in the United Kingdom in the 1993. He began with IRUSA in 1994 and was one of the original employees. Since then, he has aided in the organization’s expansion from a two-person operation to a national 501(c)3 charity that now has seven offices, some 100 employees, and thousands of volunteers.
Before becoming Deputy COO in July 2013, Khan directed IRUSA’s program efforts, managed its fundraising offices, and oversaw its fund development work. A member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Khan’s experience and effort has helped IRUSA gain recognition in the nonprofit sector.
Khan also regularly visits the field, including a number of conflict zones such as Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chechnya, Gaza, Darfur, Haiti and Pakistan. He has also traveled for development work across Africa and South Asia, visiting locations including Timbuktu. In the United States, he helped begin a volunteer network that now is comprised of thousands of people.
It is with great pleasure that IRUSA welcomes Anwar Khan into his leadership role.
