“BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A food pantry distribution for Afghan refugees is being held today at 847 Broadway Ave. from 1 to 3 p.m. in Bowling Green.
A nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization, Islamic Relief USA, awarded $12,425 in assistance to the Pakistani-American Alliance for Compassion and Education Inc., who is using the grant to provide food, hygiene kits, and other forms of help to people facing hardships and food insecurity, according to a release by IRUSA.
“The month of Ramadan is an opportunity for Muslims across the world to increase giving and empathy,” said Sharif Aly, chief executive officer of IRUSA. “It is a time to remember our neighbors who are struggling and have found themselves in vulnerable circumstances. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has particularly exacerbated food insecurity throughout the country.”
Local Afghan refugees in need who visit the pantry can expect to receive bags of food containing rice, canned goods and more until supplies run out. Food will also be delivered to refugee households.“
