Local Muslims will offer residents in need groceries, hot meals, winter clothing, sleeping bags, school supplies, first aid and hygiene kits Nov. 5 at The Millionaire Club, Western Ave.
The activities are part of an annual Day of Dignity co-sponsored by Masjid Umar Al-Farooq in Seattle and Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA).
At Day of Dignity, homeless and low-income Seattle, WA, residents will also be offered free haircuts, medical insurance information, free cell phone service and basic medical and dental screenings, including body mass index, blood pressure, blood glucose testing and health education. Other partners for Day of Dignity include Amerigroup and the University of Washington SHIFA students Clinic. The event is also supported by personal donations and 20 area Mosques and Islamic Centers.
Seattle, WA, will be one of 17 cities nationwide hosting Day of Dignity, a flagship nationwide Islamic Relief USA initiative that aims to empower communities to come together around the issues of hunger and homelessness. Islamic Relief USA has partnered with local organizations across the United States for over a decade to host annual Day of Dignity events. Day of Dignity creates an opportunity for caring individuals from diverse communities to provide services to their neighbors in need. The food and services are available to anyone in need, regardless of faith.
