On August 15, heavy monsoon rains across northern Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) led to flash flooding and deadly landslides. More than 800 people have died, over 7,000 homes have been destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of livestock have been lost. Currently, IRUSA is working to provide emergency aid to 4,500 survivors across Buner, Shangla, and Swat (KPK), including food, shelter kits, water trucking, and more.
Political and economic instability, as well as susceptibility to natural disasters like the recent floods, has forced roughly one third of Pakistan below the poverty line. Women and children – and other marginalized groups – bear the brunt, making it that much harder for them to access basic services including food, water, and proper healthcare.
IRUSA has served in Pakistan for decades, and continues to provide humanitarian and development assistance across the country today. Our interventions not only include access to these basic services, but programs dedicated to helping vulnerable families build sustainable livelihoods for themselves and for generations to come.
