“It’s one day a year for us to come out here & give back to people who don’t have access to services like these,” volunteer Faisal Zahoor said. “I’m lucky to have a bed and warm food every night, & not everyone is that fortunate.”

Islamic Relief USA and multiple other donors contributed to the day's event
Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) have renewed their landmark commitment to working together on humanitarian causes.
This year, 20 cities across the country participated in the event, said Naeem Muhammad, the U.S. programs manager for Islamic Relief USA.
National partner, Islamic Relief USA, said past events have inspired volunteers to establish service programs and organizations that aid communities year-round, said spokesman Minhaj Hassan.
Lexington’s Muslim community is holding it’s first-ever “Day of Dignity” Saturday. The event, to be held at Douglas Park off Georgetown Street will take place from 9:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon.

"Several studies over the years have shown strong correlations between eating healthfully and academic performance," said Anwar Khan, president of Islamic Relief USA. "We want to make sure children, particularly from underprivileged backgrounds, enjoy the same access to high quality food as their peers. Every child is precious."
Imam Mika’il Stewart Saadiq, leader of the Muslim Center Mosque, said the event offers dignity for the helper, as much as it does people who benefit from the donations and the health screenings.
