A Year’s Worth of Flooding in Two Days

Nearly half a million people have been displaced from their homes after severe floods and mudslides have overtaken Sri Lanka this May, just a few days into Ramadan 2017. Some towns are under as much as 18 feet of water. These are the worst floods the area has seen in some 14 years!

“My entire village is cut off and nobody can come to this village,” CM Chandrapla, 54, told Reuters. “There are no supplies for the past two days. Water has gone above three-story buildings and people survive by running on to higher ground.”

More than 169 have been killed, and 100 others are still missing. Sri Lanka needs your help this Ramadan. IRUSA  is working with local partners to deliver emergency aid quickly. This cannot happen without your support.

Please give generously this Ramadan to our brothers and sisters in need in Sri Lanka.

Please note: Donations made toward IRUSA’s Sri Lanka fund may be used to support important emergency or long-term work across the country, or for Sri Lankan refugees in other countries.
