Without a reliable and adequate means of earning a living, even hard-working families are more vulnerable to stresses such as conflict, an earthquake or a drought. When such incidents occur again and again, it becomes even more difficult for them to earn a living or get out of debt.
Poverty is a cycle, but it doesn’t have to be unbreakable. Growth is a cycle too, and by creating sustainable livelihoods in impoverished communities, people can prosper for many years to come, insha’Allah.
Through sustainable livelihood projects, Islamic Relief donors help people acquire the skills they need to develop a reliable means of earning income. Together, we’re helping families get the basics they need to survive. And we’re helping communities prosper by boosting the local economy and creating jobs.
