The following is an excerpt from an article posted in the 13WHAM in Aug 2017:
“Undated – In the midst of Harvey’s aftermath, the Better Business Bureau is cautioning consumers to check out where they’re sending donations.
The BBB says, in situations such as the ones surrounding Harvey, there are likely “storm chasers” – scammers looking to profit off the tragedy.
The following charities are BBB-accredited: American Red Cross, AmeriCares, Church World Service, Direct Relief, GlobalGiving Foundation, Humane Society of the United States, Islamic Relief USA, MAP International, Operation USA, Salvation Army, Save the Children, United Methodist Committee on Relief, and the United Way of Greater Houston.
To report a suspected scam, you can contact the BBB Scam Tracker, call 800-621-0508 or write to consumeremergency@nag.texas.gov. ”
