Assalamu alaikum, dear friend. Greetings of peace!
In the Qur'an, Allah (SWT) says in Surah Al-Maun:
"Have you seen the one who denies the faith? For that is the one who drives away the orphan, and does not encourage the feeding of the needy."
It is our responsibility to support the orphan and to encourage the feeding of the needy. On Nov. 8, we have a crucial election that will impact key policies, including how we as a nation support those most in need.
One way to be a voice for the voiceless is to go out and vote. Not only should you vote, but educate yourselves and choose representatives who will support the feeding of the needy—both on national and local levels.
At Islamic Relief USA, we also advocate giving our beneficiaries a "voice in the world." One of our key advocacy campaigns over the past year was the Vote to End Hunger. Learn about this important initiative here.
Additionally, I signed on to "An Open Letter to the Next President of the United States." This letter urges the next president to take a stand against poverty and hunger. The letter states, "Alleviating poverty and suffering is not only possible, it is the morally right thing to do and vital to our own national interest." It is important that you know what the letter says.
