BURBANK, California (October 21, 2005) – The Southern California Muslim
community will be holding a fund-raising benefit dinner for victims of last
Saturday’s devastating earthquake in Pakistan. Funds at the event will be
collected by Islamic Relief, an international relief and development
organization which is carrying out emergency relief projects for earthquake
victims.
Included in the program will be a live audio feed from the affected areas in
Pakistan, where an Islamic Relief representative will give an update on the
current situation on the ground.

Islamic Relief has been working in Pakistan since 1992, and has a full-time
staff of over 100 in the country. Islamic Relief has three full-time offices near
the earthquake-affected areas in Islamabad, Neelum Valley, and
Muzaffarabad.
The death toll for Saturday’s devastating earthquake in South Asia has
reached over 79,000, and the harsh Himalayan winter is soon approaching.
Islamic Relief has launched a worldwide $10 million appeal for earthquake
victims, of which $4 million has already been allocated.
