BURBANK, California (March 28, 2005) – Islamic Relief Worldwide immediately
responded to the needs of the victims following a 8.7 magnitude earthquake
that struck the West Coast of Indonesia. Nearly 300 people are feared dead
in collapsed buildings.
Early reports of damage and casualties were confined to the island of Nias,
off the Sumatran coast, close to the epicenter.
From its office in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, Islamic Relief Worldwide immediately
responded to the crisis, distributing food and water to the survivors of the
earthquake.
Islamic Relief Worldwide is continuing to monitor the situation in order to
respond to the ongoing needs of the victims.
