Mexico has seen significant internal violence erupt over the past three years forcing a widespread immigration crisis. An economic downturn has occurred in the midst of the conflict. The 2017 Tijuana earthquakes further exacerbated the migrant crisis.
Islamic Relief USA worked with local partners to provide stabilizing emergency aid to communities affected by the Tijuana earthquake. Construction of six transitional shelters took place to efficiently house families whose homes were completely destroyed. Throughout the project 1,500 families received tarpaulin and rope to help mitigate significant home damage.
