BURBANK, CA (March 9, 2006) – In conjunction with the local community of
Kansas City, Islamic Relief, an international relief and development
organization is holding a fundraising benefit to help the victims of the current
food crisis in Africa and the Pakistan Earthquake.
More than 10 million people in Kenya, Malawi, and Ethiopia are in need of food
assistance due to the current drought and depletion of food resources.
Islamic Relief projects in the region are providing clean drinking water and
food aid through supplementary feeding centers.
The earthquake that struck the South Asian subcontinent in October has
affected over 3 million people. Islamic Relief has been working to ensure that
the millions left homeless are not forgotten. Islamic Relief has provided aid
worth over $30 million (cash and in-kind). This effort has benefited over
340,000 people.
Guest speakers include Johari Abdul Malik, Imam (leader) of Dar Al Hijra
Mosque in Virginia and Misbah Shahid, Islamic Relief representative who
visited the earthquake affected areas. The media is encouraged to attend
