BURBANK, California (October 19, 2004) – Islamic Relief USA is urging the
immediate release of Margaret Hassan, head of Care International’s
humanitarian relief operation in Iraq.
Arif Shaikh from Islamic Relief USA said in a statement: “We call on Ms.
Hassan’s captives to recall the humanitarian work she has been doing in Iraq
for over 25 years and release her so she can carry on her good work.”
Shaikh noted that during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, which began on
Friday, there should be an increased spirit of peace and goodwill. “Ramadan is
a month of mercy, and a month of charity. It is during this month that the
work of Ms. Hassan and Care should be increased. We hope Ms. Hassan
remains unharmed and is safely released to her family.”
