The following is an excerpt from an article posted in the Loudoun Now.com  in March 2018:   ” Islamic Relief USA Packs 10K Meals for African Students “

“ The nonprofit Islamic Relief USA partnered with Rise Against Hunger and Adventist Development Relief Agency International to pack 10,000 meals for school children in several African nations on Saturday.

Volunteers crowded into Rise Against Hunger’s office in Ashburn to pack meals and get them ready to ship out. Each meal consists of rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and 23 vitamins and minerals.

“Countless studies have shown the link between healthful food and concentration,” said Islamic Relief USA National Volunteer Manager Said Durrah in a prepared statement. “Being able to work with terrific organizations like Rise Against Hunger and ADRA International makes this experience even more worthy.

Edna Ogwangi, chief impact officer for Rise Against Hunger, said her organization considers Islamic Relief USA “a vital partner in our fight against hunger.”

The work supports Rise Against Hunger’s three year, five-country Southern Africa Schools Feeding Initiative. The program will benefit school children in Mozambique, Madagascar, Malawi, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe. Each of those counties has suffered from natural or manmade disasters in recent years.

More than 14 million meals a year are distributed in more than 200 schools through that program, according to Rise Against Hunger.

The Ashburn event was one of two on Saturday; the other was in New Jersey. Islamic Relief USA will now work with Adventist Development Relief Agency International to distribute the meals. ”
