BUENA PARK, CA (January 29, 2007) – In conjunction with the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s CATCH Pediatric Mobile Team, Islamic Relief will help provide free flu immunizations to children in low-income communities this Tuesday and Friday in Detroit and Hamtramck, respectively.
Islamic Relief is helping to bring the free flu immunization services to the community to protect children from catching the illness. The CATCH (Caring Athletes Team for Children’s and Henry Ford Hospitals) Pediatric Mobile Team will be providing free immunizations to children between 5-18 years of age at two locations.
Children who will be immunized will have parental consent and fall primarily in the category of the uninsured or Medicaid dependent families.
Islamic Relief’s Research and Humanitarian Health Services Coordinator, Dr. Karima Bouchiba, will be on hand both days to help administer the immunizations.
In addition to responding to emergencies such as the South Asia Earthquake and Hurricane Katrina, Islamic Relief takes parts in many domestic projects that help the needy throughout the United States.
Recently, in the Metro Detroit area, Islamic Relief participated in the “Motor City Makeover 2006” event last May. Earlier this month, Islamic Relief distributed over 15,000 thousands of pounds of meat to the Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and inner-city Islamic centers in Detroit.
