BURBANK, California (November 10, 2005) – The Southland Muslim community
will be celebrating “Eid al-Fitr,” the Muslim holiday marking the end of the
month of Ramadan with a family entertainment program featuring traditional
and contemporary Islamic music, as well as comedy.
Proceeds from the program will benefit victims of last month’s devastating
earthquake in South Asia.
The event is being organized by Islamic Relief, and is being sponsored by
several Muslim businesses and organizations in the Southland.
Islamic Relief is currently providing emergency assistance to earthquake
victims in Pakistan and India, including winterized tents and shelter materials,
healthcare, and food packs.
Performers at the event include: Muslim comedian Stevie Mack, traditional
Islamic Musim from Al-Noor and internationally-renowned artist Abu Ratib, Hip-
Hop from world famous Native Deen and Aman, and Country Islamic music and
poetry by Kareem Salama. Also performing with be Sadullah Khan, the director
of the Islamic Center of Irvine. Khan will be performing traditional South
African Islamic chants and hymns.
