Alexandria, VA – Islamic Relief USA (IRUSA), a nonprofit humanitarian and advocacy organization with an office in Plano, has set up a cash card program for residents who suffered damages or displacement following a fire that broke out on the morning of March 4 at an apartment complex in the 7200 block of Holly Hill Lane, Dallas.

Some 11 families, with a combined total of 56 residents, were directly impacted by the fire, which necessitated the response of some 70 firefighters. The fire was extinguished after several hours.

“The objective here is to provide financial support to the individuals and family members whose personal belongings were destroyed as a result of this large fire,” said Syed M. Hassan, public affairs specialist at IRUSA. “We hope this program will help in the recovery and rebuilding phases, providing some comfort and assistance during a very difficult period.”

The cash card program totals $11,000, of which $1,000 will be given to each family to purchase necessities. The total may change based on data collected from case managers of various non-governmental organizations.

As of Tuesday, all of the families that lost their dwellings to the fire have been relocated to other units within the apartment complex. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
