BURBANK, California (March 22, 2006) – Islamic Relief, an international relief and development organization will be holding a special ceremony marking the opening of its Dallas, Texas office. The event will take place Friday, March 24, 2006.
Confirmed attendees for the event include Mayor Pat Evans of Plano and Mayor Gary Slagel of Richardson. Also attending will be Yusuf Kavakci, Imam (leader) of the Islamic Association of North Texas, Mohamed El-Ibiary of the Freedom and Justice Foundation, and representatives of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). In addition, representatives from about twenty other local groups and organizations will be attending.
The Dallas office will lead Islamic Relief’s fund-raising and projects activities in Texas and the surrounding states. In addition to its international relief and development projects, Islamic Relief’s domestic projects include its $2 million effort to help Hurricane Katrina victims in Louisiana, Mississippi, as well as Houston and Dallas in Texas.
Islamic Relief Dallas is currently working on rebuilding a halfway house, in addition to helping organize “Islamic Charity Day.” Islamic Charity Day is an initiative of of Dallas-area groups to provide new clothes, toys, school supplies, blankets, healthcare, and GED and ESL information to economically disadvantaged children, women, and men.
