Staffers at Islamic Relief U.S.A. are reaching out to people in the metro area every way they know how. They’re organizing a fundraiser dinner, sending out mass mailers and using the internet to connect with thousands of potential donors.
Appeal Manager Asma Yousef says the goal is to keep aid coming to civilians in Libya.
“Their story has kind of gotten lost in the debating back and forth about who’s coming in power and who’s going to be on our side,” Yousef says.
Islamic Relief is providing food and shelter along the Tunisian border; and trying to help immigrant workers return to their countries of origin.
“I think it’s incumbent upon all of us, whether we’re Americans or not, to respond and to stay engaged and to help out in any way we can,” Yousef says.
Yousef says the donation response has been incredible, but there’s more to do.
